Humble Beginnings

It all started when our founder, Edward, was shopping for a new pair of glasses. He had recently started wearing glasses and was shocked by the high prices at local optical stores. As a college student on a tight budget, he couldn’t justify spending $300-400 for a basic pair of glasses.

Edward started doing some research and discovered the underlying reasons why prescription glasses were so expensive – high retail markups, middlemen, and antiquated regulations that limited competition. He envisioned a better model – selling glasses directly to consumers online to cut out unnecessary costs.

In 2007, Edward invested his savings and started GlassesUSA out of his small college apartment. At first, it was just him working evenings and weekends. But he was determined to offer consumers a radically better buying experience for such an essential daily accessory.

The early days were full of challenges. We had to identify reliable suppliers, build a user-friendly website from scratch, develop logistics and fulfillment capabilities to ship fragile products across the country. However, with persistence and listening carefully to customer feedback, we gradually overcame each obstacle.

Growth Through Value

Our growth has been entirely fueled by delivering unmatched quality, selection and prices. We focus relentlessly on how to provide more consumer value – we expand our inventory to over 4,000 frames, we develop innovative tools like virtual try-ons, we publish detailed educational guides – before even considering our own profits.

Gradually, through word-of-mouth and delivering on our promise, more and more smart shoppers discovered Glassesusa as a dependable one-stop-solution for their eyewear needs. Revenue doubled then tripled year over year in those early years. Our small team could barely keep up with sales volumes coming in!

Expanding Our Reach

In 2013, we moved out of Edward’s apartment into our first little warehouse with real shipping stations and equipment. And we’ve been growing rapidly ever since.

Today, over 250 employees come together at our headquarters and multiple fulfillment centers to serve customers nationwide. Last year alone, over 500,000 pairs of glasses were delivered.

Sarah – COO

Sarah keeps day-to-day operations running smoothly across departments like a well-oiled machine. She enjoys digging into the details – whether optimizing fulfillment workflows or spot checking product quality. A proud mom of two rescue dogs when off the clock.

Raj & Sanjay – Co-CTOs
